It’s funny,  every once in a while I’ll take a look at an article about geocaching in some newspaper or website (infrequently, because all the chatter about “treasure” annoys me). Lately I’ve been seeing more and more negative comments about geocaching. Like this:

Geocaching is another name for littering.

Visit local, state and federal parks and discover your own treasure with out littering.

So what’s the deal? Why the hate?



  1. And so inaccurate. Most of the caches I have found on federal land, have been virtual in nature. Nothing was left, information was taken.
