I was feeling pretty sorry for myself this morning when I woke up with a very sore leg. During last night’s misadventure, I twisted it in a strange way while climging over a cedar-rail fence. The twist seemed to occur at my shin/calf, not at my knee or ankle. I felt an unpleasant crunching sensation at the time, but it wasn’t really painful until today.

Then I read this sad story in the news about a man who fell to his death while geocaching, and I’m not feeling so sorry for myself anymore.

And though it’s tempting to go off on a tangent of safety tips and precautionary tales, I think I’ll resist. My thoughts go out to the loved ones who are facing this sudden loss.
