Magellan eXplorist GC

Magellan is launching a new device that is totally devoted to geocaching: the Magellan eXplorist GC. I am intrigued…

As a former Magellan user and frequent Magellan defender, I am happy to see this development and I hope it works out better than the Triton series did. Of course, I have a brand new Garmin Dakota 20, so I’m not in the market for a new device right now.

  1. I’ve seen the news about this…hm. I’m happy with the unit I have for now. I don’t really know how I feel about having caches pre-loaded either. Can I remove them?? That would be nice to know. I’m going to guess probably yes, but $200 is a lot to dish out for a unit when I have any uncertainty about it.

  2. The purchase includes a premium membership at Geocaching.com and it talks about seamless connection to the site. I’m pretty sure that once you have the device, you can load it however you want.

I wouldn’t buy any new GPS until it had been on the market long enough to reveal the bugs. But $200 isn’t too bad – the Garmin paperless models run much higher than that.
